Commission on Latina/Latino Concerns
The Association of Mexican American Educators, California State
University, Sacramento, recommends the creation of a "Commission on
Latina/Latino Concerns" to identify the barriers to recruitment, retention, and
promotion of Latina/Latino administrators, faculty, and staff at the
University.
The Commission on Latina/Latino concerns will:
- be composed from members of the community and CSUS administrators, faculty,
staff, and students;
-
establish goals and timelines for the recruitment, retention, and promotion
efforts
- Within the next 5-10 years, every department will have at least one tenure
track position,
-
For every three available hired positions, one will demonstrate a strong
tract record with the Latino/Latina community;
-
chart the progress of the recruitment efforts
- Publish an annual report
-
Meet with the Affirmative Action Officer 3-4 times a year to review hiring
statistics
-
Meet with the president once a year
-
establish procedures for identifying prospective Latino/Latina candidates,
both in regular searches and for target-of-opportunity appointments;
-
groom candidates for administrative, faculty, and staff positions;
-
investigate the reasons for the slow growth rate of Latino/Latina faculty in
tenure-line ranks and administrative positions;
-
act as liaison to standing University and Academic Senate Committees working
on these issues;
-
provide accountability and credibility to the community at large and the
CSUS community with regards to diversifying administrative, faculty, and
staff positions.
