Publications about Mexican American and U. S. Hispanic culture are also located in the Perry-Castañeda Library (named after Ervin Perry, who received a Ph.D. in civil engineering from UT in 1964 and who was the first African American to be appointed to the academic rank of professor at UT; and Carlos Castañeda, professor of history and early head of the Benson Latin American Collection). This social sciences and humanities library, with its strong collection of reference materials, is a good starting point for study and research in this interdisciplinary field.
The Arts & Humanities Citation Index and The Social Science Citation Index are particularly valuable in dealing with interdisciplinary topics relating to Mexican Americans and U.S. Hispanics. Other useful reference materials are Historical Abstracts; America: History and Life; and Modern Language Association International Bibliography.
