ART LIBRARIAN
The University of California, Santa Barbara, one of ten campuses of the UC, is looking for an ART LIBRARIAN. The Art Librarian must be creative, enthusiastic, innovative, energetic, self motivated and service oriented.
RESPONSIBILITIES:Reporting to the Head of the Arts Library, and working with the Head of Cataloging and Metadata Services, the librarian has responsibility for reference, instruction, cataloging, and collection development and management for the History of Art and Architecture, Department of Art, and the Media Arts and Technology Program.
The incumbent provides reference assistance and library instruction services to faculty and students. Scheduled reference service includes some evening and weekend hours. The Art Librarian collaborates with the Head of the Arts Library in collection development activities, including selection of information resources, preservation and weeding decisions, faculty liaison, and resource sharing. He/she is also responsible for the development and maintenance of printed and web-based guides to information resources.
Performs some original cataloging of art materials in all formats and a variety of languages. Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates library staff. Participates in library committees and task forces as appropriate. Represents the library in local, state, and national activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:Required: ALA accredited MLS. Academic background and/or knowledge of Art, Art History, Architecture or related disciplines demonstrated through undergraduate or advance degree, coursework, or work experience. Skills in supervision and management.
Demonstrated experience and strong commitment to public services including providing user-centered information and reference services in person, electronically, or by phone. Knowledge and experience in collection development and bibliographic instruction within the library and at other locations. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues, faculty, students and community users in a diverse multicultural environment. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Assistant Director for Research and Instructional Services

The Penn Libraries include fifteen libraries and a nearby high-density storage facility. Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Public Services, the Assistant Director for
Research and Instructional Services manages a department of 10

and outreach services in the humanities and social sciences. Overall

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Technical Services, the Head, Cataloging Division serves as a member of the department’s senior management team and provides leadership in strategic planning, administration, and resource allocation for technical services activities. The Technical Services Department consists of two divisions: Acquisitions and Cataloging. The Cataloging Division operations pertain to original and complex copy cataloging of monographs, continuing resources, audio-visual materials, maps, electronic resources, and other bibliographic formats (BIBCO, CONSER, NACO, SACO, OCLC Enhance and National Enhance participant) in Western European, Slavic/East European, Middle Eastern, and Chinese/Japanese/Korean languages. In addition, the division is responsible for database maintenance, authority control, and physical processing. The Libraries’ integrated library system is SirsiDynix Symphony.
RESPONSIBILITIES:The Head, Cataloging Division provides strategic and effective management of the overall Cataloging Division’s activities, including non-bibliographic metadata creation, provision of access to significant electronic collections, and traditional cataloging of information resources in all formats and languages. The incumbent manages and develops staff (7 librarians, 3 professional/administrative appointees, and 37 support staff) during a critical period for technical services brought about by the changing composition of research library collections. This position will play an important role in positioning the Libraries to support evolving metadata infrastructures. S/he will cultivate proactive solutions for issues of bibliographic description/management and develop short and long-range plans based on an awareness of current developments and future trends in academic libraries. S/he will collaborate with the Digital Library Program and colleagues across the Libraries to support growing metadata and digital collections initiatives.
The Head, Cataloging Division ensures that library information resources in all formats are rapidly and accurately described in the online catalog and other finding tools so these are available to the Libraries’ user community. He or she:

Northern Michigan University in Marquette, located on Lake Superior in the heart of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, is pleased to announce the availability of a Post-MLS Fellowship in the Olson Library, which is part of Academic Information Services. The Post-MLS Fellowship will give the fellowship recipient experience in serving at a reference desk at a comprehensive university of approximately 9300 students, as well as experience with library instruction in a range of subjects and media. Research activity in an area related to the fellow's future career goals and current work in Academic Information Services is expected and supported. An ALA-accredited master's degree in Library and/or Information Science is required; we seek candidates who have recently received or who will complete this degree prior to the start of the fellowship. The University of California, Santa Barbara invites candidates to apply for its Library Fellowship Program to serve a two-year post-graduate appointment in the university libraries. Position Summary
This position focuses on the treatment of the Jantz Collection, which includes materials on German history and culture in Europe and America, and ranges chronologically from the German Baroque period to the nineteenth century. In addition to the Jantz Collection, this position may also include material from other areas of the Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library (RBMSCL). The position reports to the Collections Conservator in the Preservation Department in the Perkins Library System.

POSITION DESCRIPTION The Yale University Arts Library welcomes applications for the 2006/7 Kress Fellowship in Art Librarianship. The Kress Fellowship is intended for a recent graduate from library school who wishes to pursue a career in art librarianship. This fellowship is made possible through the generosity of the Samuel H. Kress Foundation. Through this fellowship, the Kress Foundation seeks to achieve in the field of art librarianship what it has accomplished for art history and art conservation: ensuring the growth of the discipline by promoting the advancement of new professionals.
This year the focus of the Kress Fellowship will be on all aspects of public services in the arts, which will include experience in providing reference, instruction, and outreach as well as designing and undertaking an innovative exploration of a specific aspect of these services. During their tenure at Yale Kress Fellows are expected to pursue a mutually agreed-upon project resulting in a publishable paper or a new library service. Kress Fellows are also introduced to a broad spectrum of professional activities beyond public services and will have the opportunity to perform collection development activities, interact with a variety of special collections, and participate in the work of library committees and external professional organizations.

Four Library Fellow Positions
The Texas A&M University Libraries is seeking four enthusiastic, highly motivated recent MLS/MIS graduates who are full of new ideas to begin their professional careers as Library Fellows. At the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, the Fellows will be appointed for two-year terms, with the possibility of third year extensions.
The Library Fellows program gives newly-degreed librarians the opportunity to practice librarianship as a faculty member in an ARL library at the nation’s fifth-largest university, without the requirements of a tenure-track position. During the course of the program, each Fellow will create a significant professional project that meets the needs of the library as well as the professional interests of the Fellow.
Two Fellows will work primarily in the Sterling C. Evans Library, the main library at Texas A&M with collections and services in the humanities, sciences, engineering and social sciences. Areas of responsibility will include providing research assistance, in person and via a virtual reference service and participating in instructional programs for various courses.
One Fellow will work at the West Campus Library which primarily serves the students, staff, and faculty of the Mays Business School. The Fellow will be a member of the Business, Policy Sciences and Economics Discipline Group. Areas of responsibility include providing research assistance, developing instructional programs, and participating in collection development.
One Fellow will work at the Medical Sciences Library, which serves the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Texas A&M University System Health Science Center, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and the biomedical information needs of the general university community. Areas of responsibility will include an opportunity to participate in one of the few Clinical Veterinary Librarian Programs in the country, as well as to provide reference and research assistance, develop and deliver instructional programs, support outreach activities to local health care providers and be involved in collection development.
QUALIFICATIONS:Required: The Libraries seek a diverse pool of applicants with ALA-accredited M.L.S. or M.I.S. degrees (or the equivalent) awarded recently (preferably May 2005 or later), excellent oral and written communication skills, and a commitment to strong customer service within and outside the libraries.
