Roger Carreon Guevara

Institution: The University of Texas at Austin

Position: PhD student, Superintendency Program

Research: I am conducting research on diversity training and the resulting impact it has on student attitudes. This includes culture, gender, class, and other factors which may influence student attitudes and perceptions. Does diversity training make any difference? If so, what group (i.e. principals or teachers) exerts the most influence?

As educators in a nation where the student population is increasingly diverse, we must create educational environments that are conducive for learning for all students. Thus, we must also model the type of behavior we purport to believe. Research in this area is vital for the advancement of minority students. We must understand how students of color formulate their perceptions, attitudes, and opinions then address them through solid staff development strategies.
