Recommendations of the Gay and Lesbian Caucus
Session Leader: Arturo Olivas
Recommendations:
On behalf of the Gay and Lesbian Caucus of the Binational Conference we would like to congratulate and thank the Steering Committee for providing us this opportunity to further develop and strengthen the communication links with our fellow brothers and sisters from Mexico.
The Caucus formally met on June 2, 1990 to discuss our shared concerns as it relates to Gay and Lesbian issues within "la comunidad". AIDS has had a devastating impact in our lives, and many other activists that have been involved in the struggle for human rights for Gays and Lesbians are no longer with us today.
In memory of and in spirit of the continuing struggle we, the Gay and Lesbian Caucus of the Binational Conference, call on this assembly to accept and endorse the following:
1. We support and endorse the 13th International Lesbian and Gay Association Convention in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, hosted by GOHL and Lesbico Pattanotti, and call on both governments to insure its success in June, 1991.
2. We call on both governments to support and facilitate a binational Gay and Lesbian encuentro: Mexico and the United States.
3. We are opposed to the oppressive immigration policy barring gay and lesbians and HIV seropositive individuals from traveling into each other's countries.
