Re: Report of the SCR 43 Committee on the University

Dear President Gardner:

I am pleased to transmit to you the report of the Committee on the University established by the SCR 43 Advisory Committee to evaluate the University's readiness to undertake the expanded research, teaching and public service activities inherent in the resolution's intent.

A draft of the report was reviewed by the SCR 43 Advisory Committee at its meeting in November of 1988 and revisions suggested by the Advisory Committee were incorporated in a subsequent version. At its meeting of January 31, 1989, the final report was reviewed and unanimously approved by the members of the SCR 43 Executive Committee, David Hayes-Bautista (LA), Chair, Juan Vicente Palerm (SB), Jaime E. Rodriguez (1), David J. Sanchez, Jr. (SF), Alex M. Saragoza (B), Faustina Solis (SD) and Arturo Gomez-Pompa (R).

Accompanying the Committee's action was the request that you ask the Chancellors and the Academic Senate to review and discuss the report and to provide advice concerning implementation of the recommendations it contains.
